In summary: The Turmeric Matcha Latte combines antioxidant catechin-rich matcha green tea with anti-inflammatory turmeric, creamy plant-based milk and a touch of honey or stevia. This energising drink boosts concentration, supports digestion and strengthens immunity, while offering a smooth, spicy flavour. Ideal for a healthy wake-up or a wellness break.

We've already told you about the many benefits of matcha, in particular its high antioxidant content which helps to boost the immune system.

In the recipe we're sharing with you today, created in collaboration with @maiacha_, another superfood joins this fine green tea leaf powder.

What is a superfood?

Generally used to describe foods with health benefits, a superfood is by definition a food exceptionally rich in nutrients, antioxidants, or vitamins. This is true, for example, of goji berries, chia seeds, ginseng, and turmeric.

Also featured in our recipe in powdered form, turmeric, also known as Indian saffron, is an orange-yellow spice used in curries.

It is turmeric's main molecule, known as curcumin, that gives it this distinctive colour and makes it one of the top five antioxidant-rich foods on the planet. A staple of Ayurvedic medicine, turmeric notably possesses anti-inflammatory properties and is recommended for soothing joint pain and rheumatism.

Ingredients to make a turmeric matcha latte:

  • 3 bamboo scoops (chasen) of our organic matcha powder
  • 100 ml hot water
  • 400 ml plant-based milk (we recommend coconut milk, but any other plant milk will do)
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 bamboo scoops of turmeric
  • 150 ml coconut milk

Start by sifting 3 scoops of matcha powder into a small bowl, then add 100 ml of hot water. Using a bamboo whisk, froth the mixture by whisking in an 'M' (or 'W') motion.

In another container, heat the milk with the honey, then pour in the liquid matcha and mix well.

To make the turmeric milk froth, simply take your milk frother and blend 150 ml of milk with 2 scoops of turmeric powder.

All that's left to do is pour the turmeric froth over your matcha latte, and enjoy it curled up under a cosy throw on your sofa!
