Tea: quality raw materials
Kusmi Tea selects quality teas from producing countries, imported as whole leaves. These teas travel by ship before arriving in Saint-Vigor d’Ymonville, near Le Havre in Normandy, where our production workshops are located. On arrival, our specialist teams carry out rigorous checks and take samples to assess their quality. A dedicated department takes these samples to its laboratory, where they are carefully tasted. Only once the laboratory gives the green light can the tea be stored! It is then methodically arranged in our 6,000 m² warehouse.
Human-scale French workshops
Our "Made In France" production workshops organise their work around a daily schedule. Every day, depending on what they plan to make, they order from the warehouse less than 200 metres away the components they need to create their traditional recipes.
Some days will be devoted to making loose-leaf tea, others to tea bags… but the method remains the same: ingredients are delivered and set up in the various workshop rooms. They are then weighed, and our experts follow the “recipe” that enables them to create the blends and package them using sophisticated machinery, right through to manually applying the sticker that seals the cellophane around a tin and placing its lid on top.
Our workshops have seven rooms, each specialising in the manufacture of particular products: loose-leaf blends, tea bags, tins and gift sets. Each is named after one of our teas !
From Normandy to the whole world
Our teas are then checked again and stored in our warehouse, which will be their departure point for their next destination. They then move closer to your cup, as they are dispatched to our 110 shops and our partners. A significant area is dedicated entirely to online orders: product selection is automated there, but every parcel is assembled, checked and optimised by hand by our operators before being sent around the world to reach you in your sweet home.
